Shelf is free to download and use.

You are granted a personal, non-exclusive, non-transferable license to install and use Shelf on Macs you own or control.

You may not sell, redistribute, or rent Shelf itself, and you may not reverse engineer it except where applicable law gives you that right regardless of these Terms.

All rights in the Shelf software are reserved.

You keep all rights in your content. Everything you capture, import, or write in Shelf remains yours.

Shelf is experimental software under active development. Bugs, unexpected behavior, inaccuracies, compatibility issues, and feature changes should be expected. By installing or using Shelf, you acknowledge that you are doing so voluntarily and entirely at your own risk.

Shelf saves what you choose to save.

You are responsible for:

• Ensuring you have the right to capture, import, and store the content you keep in Shelf.
• Using Shelf lawfully and respecting the rights of others.
• Keeping independent backups of anything important.
• Independently verifying any information before relying on it for important decisions.

Always perform your own research (“DYOR”) and independently verify information before relying on any output generated, summarized, ranked, or surfaced by Shelf. Automated features are provided for convenience only and should never be considered authoritative.

Saving a link fetches that webpage to build a preview and offline reading copy.

The optional image variation feature sends requests to OpenAI using your own API key.

Third-party websites and services operate under their own terms and may change or become unavailable at any time.

Features that depend on them may stop working.

No software can guarantee permanent preservation of data.

Hardware failures, operating system changes, and software bugs can all result in data loss.

Shelf provides features such as encrypted backups, verified restores, and export options, but keeping independent backups of important data remains your responsibility.

Shelf currently updates by downloading new versions from the website.

While improvements will continue, future updates, ongoing compatibility with future macOS versions, or the continued availability of any feature cannot be guaranteed.

If you send ideas, suggestions, or feedback, they may be used to improve Shelf without obligation or compensation.

Shelf is provided “as is” and “as available,” without warranties of any kind.

To the fullest extent permitted by law, all express and implied warranties are disclaimed, including warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, and non-infringement.

There is no guarantee that Shelf will be uninterrupted, error-free, secure, or that automated output or search results will always be accurate or complete.

By using Shelf, you acknowledge that all risks associated with installing and using the software are your responsibility. To the fullest extent permitted by applicable law, you agree not to hold the developer, publisher, contributors, or the Shelf project liable for any direct or indirect loss, damages, claims, costs, expenses, liabilities, data loss, business interruption, financial loss, lost opportunities, or other consequences arising from the use of, inability to use, or reliance upon Shelf, regardless of the cause.

You are responsible for how you use Shelf.

If your use of Shelf violates the law, infringes the rights of others, or breaches these Terms, you are responsible for the consequences of that use.

You may stop using Shelf at any time by deleting it.

Your local library remains yours.

The license may be terminated if these Terms are materially breached.

Sections relating to ownership, disclaimers, and liability survive termination.

These Terms are governed by the applicable laws specified at the time of publication, without affecting any mandatory consumer rights available where you live.

If these Terms change, the updated version will be published before the changes take effect.

Continuing to use Shelf after changes become effective means you accept the revised Terms.

By downloading, installing, or using Shelf, you acknowledge that you have read these Terms, understand that Shelf is experimental software, accept that you use it entirely at your own risk, and agree that you are solely responsible for your use of the software and any consequences arising from that use. You also acknowledge that you are responsible for performing your own due diligence and independently verifying any information before acting upon it.
